Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sovan Chatterjee was called by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to their office in Kolkata today. He was interrogated on numerous trade licenses that were given to Saradha boss Sudipta Sen by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation when Chatterjee was Mayor.
He was interrogated for two hours today and his statements were recorded. A number of licenses were given to associate companies of the Saradha group on the same address in Behala. Questions are being raised as to how the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) gave licenses to so many companies on the same address.
CBI officials have come across some information after interrogating Debjani Mukhopadhyay, who held a top position in the Saradha group.
Before joining the BJP, Chatterjee also held the post of district chairman of the Trinamool Congress. He is thus alleged to have been an influential person holding important connections. CBI has been interrogating many influential political leaders about a huge sum of missing funds allegedly handed over to various influential leaders at the time. Officials said that he may be called again for interrogation by the CBI.
Chatterjee told journalists that he had nothing to do with the chit fund scam and that he went to the CBI office to assist in the case.
