Student activist Anis Khan’s body exhumed for second post-mortem
Family members have alleged that he was murdered by the police.
The body of 28-year-old student-activist Anis Khan was exhumed for a second post-mortem on Monday afternoon. The body was exhumed in presence of a district judge.
Khan’s family has alleged that four persons who were wearing police uniform came looking for him, beat him up and pushed him from the upper floor of the house which caused his death. The incident took place in Howrah’s Sarada Dakshin Khan Para village after midnight on February 18. The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is currently conducting the probe. However, Anis’s father Salem Khan has been demanding an investigation by the Central probe agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The family members and villagers had objected to the body being exhumed on Saturday, though there was an order by the Calcutta High Court. On Monday, the family did not object however, when the SIT members went to exhume the body along with a block medical officer. Anis’s brother Sabir and one of his nephews went to the burial ground when the body was exhumed. Anis’s father wanted the procedure to be completed in presence of a district judge. The process was completed by 12.30 pm today.
Earlier, the SIT arrested a home guard and a civic police volunteer and inspector-in-charge of Amta police station has been sent on indefinite leave.
