Tallah bridge to be demolished: CM decides at Nabanna meeting, work to begin after 15 days
Tallah bridge will be demolished, it has been decided at a meeting this afternoon in West Bengal state administrative headquarters, Nabanna. A report will be submitted within 15 days and demolition work will begin shortly after that.
Senior police officers, officials from public works department, Indian Railways and Kolkata Municipal Corporation were present in the meeting headed by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Buses plying through the route involving the bridge won’t have increased fare. Several private buses had suspended services on the ground that they were suffering huge losses while running the buses through new routes which were much longer than their original routes.
The government decided that passengers can travel with the same ticket in more than one state-run bus if one has to travel more than once to reach their destination in the routes that go through the Tallah bridge. No extra tickets need to be bought for the same route even if a person boards a different bus for reaching his destination.
The CM has directed the departments concerned to finish the entire work of demolishing and reconstructing the bridge within a year. Railways and PWD will inspect the bridge on Saturday. The portion of the bridge above the rail tracks will be demolished by Railways and the rest will be demolished by the PWD.
