The new Nissan Tekton will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos in the Indian market.

The Bengal Story Bureau: Nissan India is preparing to unveil its much-awaited compact sports utility vehicle, the Nissan Tekton, on July 9, 2026. The new model will serve as the Japanese carmaker’s second launch in the domestic market this year after the Gravite multi-purpose vehicle.

The upcoming Nissan Tekton will enter a highly competitive segment, taking on established players like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, as well as the upcoming Tata Sierra. The company has also confirmed that the Tekton will spawn a three-row derivative in the subsequent months.

Design and Features

Based on the official teaser images, the Nissan Tekton sports a bold front fascia featuring inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights. A distinctive LED light bar sits above a full-width red insert, while the chunky skid plates and silver roof rails give the vehicle a rugged stance. The exterior package is completed by LED headlamps, fog lights and dual-tone alloy wheels.

The rear profile features connected LED taillights, matching the modern design language seen across the segment. Inside the cabin, buyers can expect a premium layout. The vehicle will likely come equipped with a new three-spoke steering wheel, a large touchscreen infotainment system and a coloured instrument cluster. Comfort features are expected to include ventilated front seats and a 360-degree parking camera.

Engine and Specifications

Under the hood, the 2026 Nissan Tekton is expected to offer a comprehensive range of powertrains. Reports suggest the vehicle will be available with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine.

The company will offer multiple transmission choices across the range. Buyers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual gearbox, a torque converter automatic transmission and a dual-clutch automatic unit. The addition of a strong hybrid option could give the Tekton a distinct advantage over several of its traditional petrol-only rivals.

Expected Price and Rivals

Industry estimates suggest the Nissan Tekton will carry a price tag ranging between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the compact SUV will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the MG Astor. It will also face fresh competition from the Tata Sierra, which is scheduled for its own reveal on June 30.

The introduction of the Tekton is a crucial step for Nissan India as it looks to strengthen its footprint in the highly lucrative compact SUV segment. This launch signals a renewed product offensive from the Japanese automaker, which currently relies heavily on the Magnite and the premium X-Trail to drive its sales in the country.
