As Tata Motors prepares to revive the Sierra, we compare the exterior styling differences between the upcoming electric and combustion engine versions.

Tata Sierra EV vs ICE: Design Differences Between the Two Models Explained
The Tata Sierra EV and ICE versions feature distinct styling elements to differentiate their powertrains.

By The Bengal Story Bureau: The Tata Sierra is set to make a comeback, and prospective buyers are weighing the differences between the upcoming electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. While both share the iconic Sierra moniker, Tata Motors has introduced distinct exterior styling cues to differentiate the battery-electric vehicle from its traditional fuel-powered counterpart.

Distinctive Front Profiles

The most immediate difference lies at the front. The Sierra EV features a closed-off grille, a signature design choice for Tata’s electric lineup, which improves aerodynamics. In contrast, the ICE version houses a traditional radiator grille with horizontal slats, necessary for cooling the engine. Both models share the new-age LED lighting signature, but the EV incorporates unique blue accents within the headlight housing and the lower bumper, signalling its eco-friendly powertrain.

Wheel Design and Aerodynamics

Wheel design plays a critical role in distinguishing the two. The Sierra EV is expected to sport aerodynamic alloy wheels designed to reduce drag and increase range on a single charge. These wheels often feature flush designs with fewer gaps. The ICE variant, however, will likely feature more conventional alloy designs that prioritise brake cooling and structural aesthetics over pure aerodynamic efficiency. Additionally, the EV variant is expected to feature “EV” badging on the fenders to differentiate it from the standard model.

Rear Styling and Tailgate

While both versions retain the boxy, retro-inspired silhouette that made the original Sierra a cult classic, the rear reveals subtle variations. The Sierra EV is expected to omit the exhaust outlets entirely, resulting in a cleaner, flush lower bumper design. The ICE version will feature a visible exhaust setup, integrated neatly into the rear diffuser. Both models are expected to carry the signature split-tailgate design, though the charging port door on the EV’s rear quarter panel will be the definitive visual cue for eagle-eyed enthusiasts.

What to Expect Next

Tata Motors is positioning the Sierra as a premium addition to its SUV portfolio. With the EV and ICE versions sharing the same platform architecture, the brand aims to offer flexibility in powertrain choices for consumers. Official specifications regarding performance figures and exact launch timelines are expected to be announced at the upcoming festive season showcase. Both models will be manufactured at Tata’s updated production facilities, incorporating the latest in vehicle safety and connectivity technology.
