TMC raises questions as Central forces start route march in Kolkata

Central forces started their route march in the city streets on Monday as part of area domination and to instill confidence among the people ahead of the Lok Sabha polls commencing April 11. They were seen in the south Kolkata neighbourhoods like Behala, Naktala, Bansdroni and Regent Park, and also in the southwestern parts of the city like Metiabruz and Watgunj.

The Trinamool Congress leaders however, were skeptical and questioned the intention of the ‘flag march’ so early on since elections in Kolkata will be held in the last phase, May 19.

Partha Chaterjee, the secretary general of the party stated that the Central forces could be seen on television asking a woman about her son. “Is that what they should do? One can understand the intention,” he said.

Senior leader Firhad Hakim said that the Trinamool Congress has no problem whatsoever with the flag march by the Central forces as long as they are neutral and not committed to any particular party.

BJP’s spokesperson Sayantan Basu however, has received the move to send Central forces to Kolkata, positively. He stated that his party wants the Central forces to stay so that voting is conducted peacefully, without any incidents.
