Surajit Kar Purakayastha questioned at ED office in Saradha case

The CBI and the ED are probing the Saradha chit fund scam.

Retired IPS officer Surajit Kar Purkayastha was questioned by officers of the Enforcement Directorate at the organisation’s office in CGO complex of Salt Lake on Thursday for an hour and a half. He was transferred out of his post by the Election Commission of India two days ago. Kar Purakayastha was summoned for questioning in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam.

He has been posted as the state’s security advisor since June 2018.

Another retired IPS officer from Bengal, Rajat Majumdar, has also been called by the ED in connection with the Saradha probe.

The Enforcement Directorate is a Central government law enforcement and economic intelligence agency that is responsible for enforcing economic laws and for fighting economic crime in the country. The ED, apart from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the Saradha chit fund scam.
