Trinamool Birbhum chief Anubrata Mondal arrested by CBI
He has been skipping CBI's summons on "health grounds".
Trinamool Congress Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday morning from his house in Bolpur, 160 km from Kolkata.
CBI officers reached his house along with a huge contingent of CRPF personnel and started questioning him in connection with the cattle smuggling case which the Central agency is investigating.
Mondal has been summoned by the CBI ten times so far, but the Trinamool Congress leader has appeared before the agency officers only once. He was arrested after he has allegedly not cooperated with the agency’s probe. Over the past few days, he was called twice, but Mondal first went to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital for medical examination, where doctors said he did not require hospitalisation. Later, he left for his Birbhum home where doctors from the district hospital checked him and advised him rest.
After these recent developments, the CBI officers went to his house this morning, and arrested him. He was taken for medical tests and will be produced in a court soon.
