A Trinamool Congress delegation visited Bhatpara of North 24 Parganas on Friday to take stock of the situation in the area.

Bhatpara has been on the boil since from the time Trinamool Congress’ lawmaker from the area Arjun Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on being denied a party ticket. He was later fielded by the BJP from Barrackpore and he went on to win it. The clashes have become all the more violent after the election results were announced on May 23.

Two persons died in violent clashes in Bhatpara earlier this month. A couple of days later, a new police commissioner was appointed for Barrackpore, and Manoj Verma took over from June 21. He has been trying to instil confidence among the people.

On Friday, a Trinamool Congress delegation comprising Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, Purnendu Basu, Tapas Roy, Bratya Basu, Sujit Basu, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Jyotipriya Mullick, visited the area. They spoke with the people and later went to Bhatpara police station, where they met the police commissioner. Later, the delegation of senior leaders said that the situation was improving every day.

On Monday, the police commissioner will accompany the family of deceased Rambabu Shaw and Dharamveer Shaw to Nabanna, where the government will discuss offering them jobs. The government will also discuss extending support to those who had been affected by the violence going on in the area. The Trinamool Congress will visit the area again after a week.
