West Bengal’s Raidighi constituency lawmaker, actor Debashree Roy was spotted in the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office today, leading to speculations that she too may join the party along with Sovon Chatterjee.
Roy has won the Raidighi seat from Trinamool Congress ticket first in 2011 beating CPI(M) veteran Kanti Ganguly. She won the seat again in 2016. A Bengali film star, Debashree Roy is known to be close to Sovon Chatterjee, who was in charge of the party’s South 24 Parganas district for many years, from where Roy has been elected.
Sovon Chatterjee and his friend Baishakhi Banerjee are in Delhi’s BJP office where both are likely to join. While that has long been speculated, Debashree Roy’s presence at the same time has come as a surprise to many. There are speculations that she may not join BJP today but had gone to meet a leader today.
