The Trinamool Congress is launching a massive campaign all over Bengal to learn about grievances directly from the people. A meeting and a press conference is scheduled today in Kolkata where the plans for the coming days will be unveiled.
The party, after its poor show in the Lok Sabha polls, has appointed poll strategist Prashant Kishor for a turnaround with an eye on 2021 Assembly elections. Right after Kishor took charge, there have been both big and small changes in the party and in the way the party chief Mamata Banerjee has been openly criticising some of her party’s policies, leaders and the disconnect with people.
A number of strategies have been worked out for the coming days. Among the more significant is the door-to-door campaign to learn why people are upset with the ruling party and what can be done to rectify it. Sources said that a campaign slogan – Didi ke bolo (tell Didi/talk to Didi) – will be launched. It involves getting feedback from people on whatever they wish to tell Mamata Banerjee (popularly known as Didi) about the government, the party, its leaders and policies.
There are also talks that the party might engage “whole-timers” in the likes of the Left parties, who will be full-time workers of the party against a monthly salary. However, these plans and more are likely to be announced by Banerjee herself later in the day.
