Trinamool leader Saayoni Ghosh arrested in Tripura, Abhishek Banerjee to reach Agartala on Monday
Trinamool alleges attack by "BJP goons".
Trinamool Congress leader Saayoni Ghosh was arrested by Tripura Police on Sunday and was allegedly attacked by “BJP goons”. She is president of the Bengal youth wing of the party.
Trinamool’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will visit the state on Monday. He could not reportedly reach the state on Sunday as permission for his landing was denied. The BJP has denied allegations made against the party, and said that Ghosh disturbed a street corner meeting of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday night.
Ghosh, along with other Trinamool leaders including Sushmita Deb and Kunal Ghosh were allegedly attacked by “BJP goons” in the East Agartala women police station. This led to six Trinamool supporters getting injured, the party said.
The police on the other hand said that some unidentified persons attacked a group of people who gathered near the police station when Saayoni Ghosh was being questioned, but no one was injured. She was arrested later in the afternoon and accused of attempt to murder and creating enmity between people, among other charges. The sections are non-bailable and she could not be produced in court, the party said.
