Trinamool MLA Dipak Haldar resigns, party says he wouldn’t have been made candidate this time

To join BJP?

Dipak Haldar, Trinamool Congress MLA from Diamond Harbour sent his resignation letter through speed post. He said that he had taken the decision as he was “not being allowed to work”.

Asked if he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Haldar said: “Anything is possible, though I have not taken any decision.” There are talks though that he might join the BJP officially from a rally at Baruipur on Tuesday.

Trinamool Congress leaders said that Haldar’s disgruntlement comes from the fact that he has become unpopular in his constituency, and due to this the party had decided not to field him as a candidate this time. Party chief Mamata Banerjee has been saying that those who are leaving Trinamool and joining the BJP are doing so because they are aware that they wouldn’t be made candidates this time due to their non performance.

Several Trinamool leaders such as Suvendu Adhikary, Rajib Banerjee, Vaishali Dalmiya, Rathin Chakraborty, Prabir Ghoshal, Sunil Mondal and others have joined the BJP already. At least 18 sitting and former MLAs in Bengal have joined BJP.
