Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra questions Kangana Ranaut’s Y+ security cover

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday questioned the Centre’s “use of resources” after “Y-plus” security cover was granted to actor Kangana Ranaut. In her Twitter comment, Moitra referred to the actor as “Bollywood Twitterati”.

Kangana Ranaut is the first Bollywood actor to get Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security. There is a personal security officer and 11 armed police personnel as part of her security cover. She has been attacking the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra regarding the probe of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

Mahua Moitra, in her tweet, wrote: “Why are Bollywood twitterati getting Y+ security when India has a police-to-population ration of 138 per lakh and ranks 5th lowest globally among 71 countries? No better use of resources, Mister Home Minister?” While many supported her, some Twitter users responded to Moitra’s comment by asking why Trinamool Congress’ political advisor Prashant Kishor was getting specialised security.

Ranaut has been attacking the Maharashtra government and Mumbai Police over its handling of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, which is now being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On stating that she feared living in Mumbai, Ranaut was told by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut that she should not go there if she felt insecure. Later, she wrote on Twitter, “Why is Mumbai feeling like Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir?” Several Shiv Sena leaders, including Raut, reacted to this statement with controversial remarks.

Later, in a video, Kangana Ranaut – who is currently in her home town in Himachal Pradesh – announced that she would reach Mumbai on September 9, and it is being seen as a challenge to the Shiv Sena which many feel may lead to further clashes and controversies.
