Trinamool Congress MP Satabdi Roy has returned Rs 30.68 lakh she had received from the Saradha chit fund company. She has paid this money to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a draft, it was learnt.
The ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) – two Central government agencies – are probing the Saradha chit fund scam that is alleged to have duped thousands of investors in West Bengal and some neighbouring states.
Roy, who has been a brand ambassador for an organisation under Saradha, has been questioned by both Central agencies and she had said earlier that she wanted to return the money she had received from the company as payment. Roy said she wanted the money to be given to the poor who had invested in the company.
Another Trinamool MP (Rajya Sabha) – who is no longer in active politics – film star Mithun Chakraborty had also returned his payment similarly.
