Two couples were found murdered in two different parts of Kolkata on Tuesday morning. The brutality of the way they were murdered has shocked people in the city.
An elderly couple was found murdered in Netaji Nagar, close to Tollygunge. Dilip Mukhopadhyay and his wife Swapna Mukhopadhyay lived in a two storied house in Netaji Nagar. Swapna Mukhopadhyay was found near the landing of the staircase, and her husband was found lying on the bed. Investigators said that they seemed to have been smothered. The bodies have been sent for post mortem and how they were actually killed can only be ascertained from the reports.
The house was found to be in a mess – with things lying strewn around and cupboards had been searched, investigating officers said. The couple had been repeatedly approached by people who wanted to use the property for promoting business. The couple was apparently not keen on selling the house. They did not have children, and police are trying to figure out whether the murders had to do with the property.
In another shocking incident, a middle-aged couple was found murdered in a house in Narendrapur, in the city’s southern outskirts. Pradip Biswas and his wife Alpana used to work as caretakers of the house. The owner lived elsewhere and visited the house occasionally. The couple had not been answering phone calls and their relative visited the house to look for them. The bathroom and other rooms had blood stains and two travel bags were found. Suspecting that they may have been killed, the relative and local people called police, who later found that the bodies had indeed been stuffed inside the travel bags.
The bodies have been sent for post mortem and investigation has started to ascertain the cause of the brutal murders.
