Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee joins the BJP

Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, in presence of the party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Chatterjee is said to have met senior BJP leaders in Delhi on Tuesday. In 2004, she had contested the national elections as a Congress candidate from West Bengal, from the Calcutta North-East seat, but had been defeated.

According to reports, Chatterjee is set to contest an important seat from West Bengal in the coming Lok Sabha polls, scheduled to be held by May 2019. She has acted in many Bengali and Hindi films over the years, the latest being the Bollywood film Piku in which her co-actors were Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.

Several others from the entertainment industry have joined the BJP in Bengal – including Rupa Ganguly, Babul Supriyo and Locket Chatterjee.
