50% vaccine in Bengal for second dose only, health dept instructs
Dearth of vaccines for second dose reported from districts.
With dearth of vaccine for people who need second dose reported across various districts of West Bengal, the state health department has now instructed 50 per cent of the available vaccine to be allotted for it.
The state government says that enough vaccine is not available from the Centre and the problem is due to this lack of supply. However, under this backdrop, the state health department has instructed half of the available vaccine to be given to those who need their second dose. This applies to both Covaxin and Covishield. Till now, 8.43 lakh (approx) people have not got their second dose vaccine in the state.
Commissioner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, district magistrates, state-run hospital authorities, and health department authorities of all districts have been informed about this directive. Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Murshidabad and Malda have the highest number of people yet to get their second dose vaccine.
