PM Modi starts BJP’s poll campaign in Bengal, wants to bring in “Ashol Poriborton”
Modi's rally in Kolkata his first one since election dates announced.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday started the West Bengal Assembly elections campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is his first rally in the state since the election dates were announced for Bengal – that starts on March 27 and continues till April 29. Election results are out on May 2.
Modi said that the Mamata Banerjee government broke the trust of the people in the state. “Bengal wanted Poriborton, (change) but she broke the trust,” he said, adding that there is now need for “Ashol Poriborton”. PM Modi had used the phrase “Ashol Poriborton” (real change) earlier too. He said that a BJP government in Bengal would mean more jobs and industries.
Modi blamed the “syndicate” culture, “cut-money” culture and tolabaji (extortion) in Bengal for keeping the state in the doldrums.
He said that in the year 2047, which marks 100 years of India’s Independence, Bengal will lead in all sectors. “The next 25 years are very important for development in Bengal…In 2047, when India will celebrate 100 years of independence, Bengal will lead the country once again,” he said.
He said that the democratic system had been destroyed in the state and the BJP will strengthen it. He said that he wants people to have faith again in government systems, in the police, and the administration.
