PM Modi “won’t be forgiven” for farm laws: Mamata Banerjee
“Indiraji apologised for Emergency in 1977 but people did not excuse her", she said.
Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee – currently in Mumbai – today said while speaking on the now-scrapped farm laws, that “people won’t forgive” Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Indiraji was a very powerful leader, but the message reached – ‘Emergency, Emergency, Emergency’. She apologised in 1977 but people did not excuse her. Our PM has apologised to farmers but message has already reached, so he won’t be excused either,” Banerjee said. She said that the farm laws may have been repealed, but there was no discussion.
“But why did he repeal the farm laws… because of UP election. Everybody knows that. They are also afraid. Don’t think they (the BJP) are very safe. Only the country must be saved. Don’t worry, everything will work out,” the Bengal CM added.
The comment appears to have a connection with PM Modi’s earlier attack on the Congress earlier this year, in which he had condemned the party for “a systematic destruction of institutions” that “can never be forgotten”.
PM Modi in November “apologised” to farmers who spent over a year protesting the three farm laws introduced by the Central government. The Centre decided to scrap the laws in Parliament, and the bill for scrapping was signed last night by President Ram Nath Kovind.
