CBI summons Trinamool MLA Saokat Molla in coal smuggling case

A notice was sent to him on June 9.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had summoned Trinamool Congress MLA Saokat Molla for questioning in a case of alleged coal theft from the mines of the Eastern Coalfields Ltd in West Bengal. Molla, the Trinamool’s Canning Purba MLA, was asked to appear for questioning at the CBI’s Kolkata office on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the Trinamool MLA reached the CBI’s office. The notice was sent to him on June 9 asking him to be present on June 15 for the probe.

Meanwhile, a team of CBI officers had questioned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira at their south Kolkata residence for over seven hours on Tuesday in a coal scam probe. This was the second time the CBI had questioned her in the case, after the first time in February 2021.
