Abhishek Banerjee faces ED today in coal smuggling case

Banerjee reached the ED’s office in Salt Lake CGO Complex today at 11 am.

Trinamool Congress national general secretary and party MP Abhishek Banerjee is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Salt Lake today. Banerjee reached the ED’s office in Salt Lake CGO Complex today at 11 am. He is being questioned on the coal smuggling case that the central agency is probing.

Security has been tightened around the CGO complex today over this. Banerjee has faced the ED’s questioning in the agency’s Delhi office earlier. In June this year, Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira had also been the the CGO Complex office in Salt Lake, where she took her young son along.

On Monday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had said at a public meeting in Kolkata that Abhishek Banerjee may be sent a notice again. Abhishek Banerjee, the CM’s nephew, had also said at the meeting venue that something “may happen”. A notice was sent to him on Tuesday.
