Twin blasts in Kabul kill 25

At least 25 people including eight journalists were killed in the twin suicide bomb attacks in central Kabul on Monday. According to reports, Islamic State has taken the responsibility for the attack.

AFP’s chief photographer in Afghanistan, Shah Mrai, was killed in the attack along with seven journalists from the Afghan media. The AFP confirmed this on Twitter.

The first explosion took place in the Shashdarak area close to the National Directorate of Security (NDS) building, killing four people and injuring five. While rescue workers and photographers rushed to the spot, another suicide bomber, posing as a reporter, blew himself up close to the spot, outside the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

In an earlier attack, in west Kabul a week back, 60 people were killed.
