Actor Sonu Mmishra revealed he walked away from Kala Hiran due to an unethical media clause.

The Bengal Story Bureau: Actor Sonu Mmishra has publicly distanced himself from the upcoming controversial film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, revealing that he walked away from the lead role after discovering a clause that required him to speak negatively about superstar Salman Khan in the media.

Mmishra, who recently shared screen space with Salman Khan in the action thriller Sikandar, disclosed that he had already filmed for two days before demanding to see the formal agreement and the complete script. The film has drawn massive attention for its explicit references to Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case and the ongoing Lawrence Bishnoi controversy.

One-Sided Narrative

Speaking at a press conference and in an interview with a digital entertainment channel, Mmishra stated that he initially accepted the project out of professional excitement to portray a character modelled on the Bollywood superstar. However, the actor soon grew highly uncomfortable with the real objectives of the project.

“I was very excited for Kala Hiran. I got the opportunity to play superstar Salman Khan. I had started shooting as well. But when a narrative starts getting built, you realize what the intent of the film is,” Mmishra said, clarifying his exit. He noted that while filmmakers have a right to their perspective, depicting Salman Khan in a purely negative and one-sided manner went entirely against his personal and professional ethics.

The Media Clause Conflict

The dispute peaked when Mmishra, a vocational actor with over 15 years of industry experience, pushed for legal paperwork. Because filming began without a signed contract, his insistence on viewing the document exposed clauses that he found completely unacceptable.

According to Mmishra, the producers realised they could not control his statements once he questioned the direction of the script. When they finally presented the contract after significant delay, it reportedly included a mandatory clause forcing him to make public statements against Salman Khan during promotional drives. The actor refused to comply, immediately walking out of the project.

Escalating Legal Troubles

The development follows veteran actor Govind Namdev also distancing himself from the same film, alleging that the production house had seriously misled him regarding the storyline. Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy is produced by Amit Jani, who recently triggered viral social media debates after publicly tearing up a legal notice reportedly connected to the project.

The film faces severe legal hurdles as Salman Khan’s legal team has approached the Delhi High Court, arguing that the production directly violates the superstar’s personality rights. The high court is scheduled to hear the matter on June 19 to decide whether the film can proceed with its current narrative.
