The Bengal Story Bureau: Hyundai Motor India has made its Creta Electric significantly more accessible by introducing a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model. Under this new structure, the entry-level ex-showroom price of the electric SUV has dropped to Rs 10.99 lakh, while buyers pay a separate battery rental fee of Rs 3.90 per kilometre driven.
The BaaS model aims to remove a primary psychological barrier to EV adoption in India: the high initial acquisition cost. By separating the battery cost from the vehicle shell, Hyundai has reduced the upfront price of the Creta Electric by roughly Rs 7 lakh compared to the standard full-ownership variant, which continues to start at Rs 18.03 lakh.
How the Battery Rental Works
Instead of paying for the entire battery pack at the time of purchase, the BaaS plan effectively treats the battery cost as a recurring subscription. The owner pays a minimum monthly fee based on the Rs 3.90 per kilometre rate, mapped to their actual driving usage.

With this launch, Hyundai becomes the seventh major carmaker in India to adopt a battery rental programme. The brand joins MG Motor, Tata Motors, Kia, Toyota, Maruti Suzuki and Citroen in offering flexible EV payment structures to domestic buyers.
New Features and Charger Updates
Alongside the new pricing model, Hyundai has introduced minor functional updates to the Creta Electric lineup. An integrated side foot step is now standard across all variants, improving cabin access and enhancing the visual stance of the SUV.
The mid-spec HC variants of the electric SUV will now also be bundled with a 7.4 kW AC wallbox charger. This replaces the previous 11 kW unit, a practical adjustment that aligns better with standard home-charging electrical capacities in most Indian households.

Range and Battery Specifications
The Hyundai Creta Electric remains mechanically unchanged. It continues to be offered with two battery options: a standard 42 kWh pack producing 135 bhp, and a 51.4 kWh long-range pack delivering 171 bhp. The standard model offers an ARAI-certified range of 420 km, while the larger battery pushes the certified range to 510 km on a single charge.
The vehicle supports fast charging capabilities, allowing the battery pack to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 39 minutes using a DC fast charger. It directly competes against the Tata Sierra EV, Maruti e Vitara, MG ZS EV and Mahindra BE 6 in the crowded mid-size electric SUV segment.
