Lucknow groom’s head tonsured for increasing dowry demands

Lucknow groom’s head tonsured for increasing dowry demands

In a surprising twist of events, a dowry demand by the groom’s family during a wedding resulted in the groom and his friends being held captive and their heads allegedly tonsured by the family of the bride. This happened on Monday in Saheed-Zia-ul-Haq Park in Khurramnagar area of Lucknow’s Indiranagar, where the bride is from.

The groom, Abdul Kalam of Barabanki was getting a bike from the bride’s family. But when he arrived with the baraat of about 150 people, the groom apparently also wanted a gold chain and a bike of a different brand.

The girl’s father and the groom had a heated conversation after which Kalam apparently called off the wedding. But some local residents allegedly caught the groom and his friends and held them captive in a room where their heads were tonsured.
