Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force to be made into a separate directorate

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police, headquartered at Lalbazar, will be separated from the city police and made into a separate directorate.

Currently, the STF – which functions to nab functionaries in terror groups, its funding and various ways of operating – tend to spread much beyond the precincts of the city. Thus, a decision was made to form a separate directorate of the STF which would function throughout the state. It will be known as STF, West Bengal.

An inspector-general rank officer will head the SFT with two officers in the rank of deputy inspector general (DIG) and four SPs (superintendent of police).
