Supreme Court hearing on Ayodhya likely to end today

The daily hearings in the Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Masjid land dispute in Ayodhya is likely to end today at 5 pm. This was indicated by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. “We will rise by 5pm. Enough is enough,” he said, after a lawyer asked the Supreme Court for more time for the arguments. The court is expected to announce a verdict before the CJI leaves office on November 17.

Tuesday was the 39th day of the hearing that had started on August 6 this year. The five-judge Constitution bench headed by the CJI started its day-to-day proceedings after the mediation proceedings could not reach a conclusive solution.

There have been 14 appeals filed in the apex court against the 2010 judgement by the Allahabad High Court, delivered in four civil suits that the 2.77 acre land be divided equally among three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nimrohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
