9 dead in UP in anti-CAA clashes; not from police firing, claim DGP

Nine protestors were killed in clashes during Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests across Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Altogether 11 deaths have taken place over these protests in UP so far. Two protestors were killed in Bijnor, one each in Kanpur, Firozabad, Sambhal and Meerut.

But the state DGP OP Singh has denied that the protestors were killed in police firing. Not a single bullet was fired by the police, he claimed. Over 50 police personnel were injured in the clashes, according to police.

There were protests in various districts all over Uttar Pradesh on Friday, defying prohibitory orders, and clashes ensued. Police used lathicharge and tear gas shells.
