With cloud cover over Kolkata along with the possibility of rainfall, temperature may rise a bit late in the day on Thursday. But Kolkata and south Bengal may receive light rain, while heavy rainfall is predicted for Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia – the districts close to the adjoining states of Jharkhand and Chattisgarh where a low-pressure trough has formed.
The temperature is thus likely to drop again from Friday as the cloud cover disappears after the rain. The following days will see a drop in temperature by 2-3°C. This will lead to another cold spell like the one that the state experienced last week.

However, no large change in the night temperature is predicted during the next two days after which the night temperature will fall by 2-4°C. Shallow to moderate fog is predicted in the morning over the Gangetic West Bengal in next two days.
Heavy fog formation is predicted for North and South Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar.
