COVID-19: Superintendent of Howrah District Hospital tests positive

The Superintendent of Howrah District Hospital tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday. He is currently admitted at MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata. His family members have been quarantined.
The Howrah hospital had stopped admitting COVID-19 patients since last Monday and was referring them to Satyabala ID Hospital in the district. It is learnt that the Superintendent started developing symptoms of COVID-19 after that. Thus, it is suspected that he may have contacted the disease from some COVID-19 patient while the hospital was still admitting such patients.
Officials of the state health department are concerned because the Superintendent held several meetings over the past few days with many district officials as well as doctors, nurses and health workers in the hospital. Some police officials are also being feared to have come in contact with him.
The health department is trying to track down all those who came in contact with the hospital superintendent.
Till Wednesday, West Bengal reported 71 active COVID-19 cases and five COVID-19 deaths.
