Mamata Banerjee to meet top officials on Tuesday to review COVID-19 situation & lifting of restrictions ahead
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting with top officials on Tuesday to review the overall COVID-19 situation in the state and requirements in hospitals across the state. She will also decide on the lifting of restrictions in certain areas in the days ahead.
The lockdown period as of now ends on May 17, though the path ahead would be clear as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make the announcement on national television at 8 pm on Tuesday.
All district magistrates, police superintendents, police commissioners and chief medical officers of health (CMOH) are expected to be present at the meeting with Banerjee over videoconferencing.
The state government has been increasing the restrictions in COVID-19 containment zones, while easing the economic activities in green zones where there are no COVID-19 cases. The government’s aim in doing so has been to provide means of livelihood to poor workers of unorganised sector in Bengal. Tea plantations have already been allowed to run with 50 per cent workforce from Monday. The workers have to maintain social distancing norms and wear masks all the time.
