Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee – who received the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics – called on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at the state administrative headquarters Nabanna on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his mother Nirmala Banerjee.
Earlier in the day, Abhijit Banerjee received the honorary DLitt conferred on him by Calcutta University.
The three Banerjees had a closed door meeting for some time at Nabanna, but it was said to be an informal one, and a courtesy call. Later, photographers were taken to the room where they took some pictures. The chief minister said Abhijit Banerjee is our pride.
The chief minister had visited Nirmala Banerjee at her Ballygunge Circular Road home after Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee received the Nobel Prize.
