Adhir Chowdhury likely to be replaced as Congress’ leader in Lok Sabha

Who will be the new leader to hold the post?

Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is likely to be replaced as the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha. The possibility has been doing the rounds for the past few weeks.

Some reports stated that the Shashi Tharoor or Manish Tiwari may hold the position in place of Chowdhury. Monsoon session of the Parliament begins on July 19, and the decision will be taken before that. In fact, a meeting has been called by the party on July 15, which will involve taking various decisions and strategies including this matter.

Among the various reasons being sited, one reason for replacing Chowdhury is that the party’s central leadership is keen to make ties warm with Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the next Lok Sabha polls. Chowdhury has always been seen as a leader opposed to Banerjee. However, officially, it is more to do with the fact that the Congress wants to impose “one person one post” policy in the party strictly. Chowdhury heads the Congress in Bengal and he has been holding the position of the Lok Sabha leader of the party, and as such he is expected to be relieved of one post.
