Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to West Bengal from Wednesday evening, is likely to call on singer, Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. He is likely to visit Chakraborty’s house in Kolkata on Friday.
Senior state BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mukul Roy had called on Chakraborty two days back. This was even tweeted by the leaders. The visit by Roy and Vijayvargiya is being seen as a preliminary meeting for preparing the one between Shah and Chakraborty on Friday. Barrackpore BJP MP Arjun Singh was present at the meeting as well.
Chakraborty however, has refused to comment on the matter, and said that he has been on good terms with “everyone”. Shah’s plan to visit the singer is being seen with immense curiosity and speculations. BJP leaders have been saying that this is the party’s attempts to reach out to intellectuals in the state ahead of the Assembly elections of 2021.
Shah is visiting the state primarily to hold organisational meetings in Bankura and Kolkata for the next two days.
