Amit Shah’s promise to Bengal: 7th Pay Commission benefits for govt workers, welfare for fishermen, Gangasagar as international tourist spot

Shah is on a two-day visit to Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said government workers will get benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal. He was speaking at a public meeting in Namkhana of South 24 Parganas district in the state.

“If the BJP comes to power in Bengal, government workers will get benefits of the 7th Pay Commission here,” he said. Shah is on a two-day Bengal visit. He said that fishermen will get various benefits too, promising Rs 6,000 for four lakh fishermen. He said that South 24 Parganas would be made into a “sea food hub”.

“We will turn Gangasagar into an international tourist spot,” Shah promised. He also visited Kakdwip from where he flagged off the fifth and the final phase of BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in the state.

At the public meeting, Shah said that the funds sent by the Centre as relief following the Amphan cyclone, were not reaching the beneficiaries due to the “syndicate” – a middlemen’s group of the ruling party, who he alleged, siphoned off the money. He said that if the BJP comes to power they would probe into the matter and the criminals would be sent to jail.

He also announced the setting up of a “zero-casualty task force” so that people will no longer suffer in natural calamities such as Amphan.
