Bengal Assembly session from Monday, discussion on “women’s empowerment” next week
The winter session started earlier this year.
The winter session of the West Bengal Assembly started on Monday, and will continue till November 18. The winter session, usually held in December, has been advanced this time. This is apparently due to the possibility of municipal polls in December.
On Monday, November 8, the Assembly has an hour and a half session on “women’s empowerment”. The ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal has brought many women-friendly schemed like Kanyashree, Lakkhir Bhandar in the state, and the party has also fielded a number of women candidates for the polls. Also, with a woman being at the helm in the state administration, the matter will be discussed at length in terms of women’s safety, security and more schemes and opportunities for women in the state.
The BJP legislative party meanwhile, has written to the Speaker requesting him to defer the session by a few days citing Diwali and Kali Puja festivals on November 4 and 5. But the Speaker, Biman Banerjee, has said that there will be no session during days of festivals such as Diwali and Kali Puja. There is no problem with having a session on other days and the BJP has been informed accordingly, he said.
