Bengal forms surveillance teams for containment zones in 3 districts

West Bengal health department has formed three surveillance teams to inspect the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the containment zones of Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas.

The teams will have teachers of community medicine from four institutes –College of Medicine & Sagore Dutta Hospital, Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital and the medical college and hospitals at Burdwan and Diamond Harbour.

After detailed inspection of the containment zones in these districts, the teams will suggest to the government how tests need to be done there or whether the number of such zones should be increased in these districts. The teams will also inform the department about people who have a chance of getting infected with COVID-19 in these zones.

They will also provide suggestions on whether the markets should be allowed to run in these places and how to control the crowd in such public places. These teams will submit their daily reports by 6 pm everyday to the health department after doing ground level inspection of these areas.

The number of containment zones in Hoogly was 23 on Tuesday. North and South 24 Parganas had 92 and 30 zones till Tuesday.
