Bengal will now have an entire day dedicated to roshogollas

West Bengal bagged the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for roshogolla in 2017, after fighting a two year long legal battle with Odisha, which also claimed to be the origin creator of the sweet. Now it is time to celebrate it with an entire day dedicated to roshogollas.

“Roshogolla Day” will be celebrated on November 14 to observe the first anniversary of the GI tag. Different varieties of rosogollas will be displayed in the “Mishti Hub” stalls set up in Eco Park, New Town, said HIDCO (Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation) chairman, Debashis Sen.

The Mishti Hub, a unique endeavour where sweet makers, new and old, traditional and unique come together under one roof, has become an instant success after it opened in July this year.

The Bengalis are very possessive about their sweets, and especially the rosogolla. Thus, this day, and this win would be a source of pride and joy to the city.
