Bengali film actor Payel Sarkar on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was handed over the party flag by BJP chief in the state, Dilip Ghosh. Sarkar has acted in several popular Bengali films.
Yesterday, several actors and directors from the Bengali film industry — popularly known as Tollywood — joined Trinamool Congress at party chief Mamata Banerjee’s meeting in Hooghly district. Actors Saayoni Ghosh, Kanchal Mullick, directors Raj Chakraborty, Sudeshna Roy, were some of the actors and directors who joined the Trinamool Congress at a public rally. Cricketer Manoj Tiwari also joined Bengal’s ruling party from the same meeting.
Whether all those who joined BJP and Trinamool get tickets for the coming Assembly polls continue to be speculated though. Elections in the state are scheduled in April-May. The dates are yet to be announced by the Election Commission.
