BJP demands cancellation of civic polls where Trinamool won “uncontested”

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing on Thursday held protests outside the State Election Commission office alleging bias against them in various municipality areas across Bengal. They said that in some areas BJP candidates were being threatened and not allowed to file nominations, and in some areas they were being threatened.

The protests were held from 2 pm on Thursday. Later, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, went to the area after the situation turned rather volatile and some BJP workers clashed with the police. About 40 persons have been held. One of the policemen on duty was injured in the head.

Later, Adhikari said: “We have demanded deployment of Central forces for the municipal polls. We have said that unless Central forces are deployed in Salt Lake, the elections won’t be peaceful.” The State Election Commission authorities meanwhile said that the allegations are being probed, and action taken where deemed necessary.
