Municipal elections in Bengal, including Kolkata, likely in April

The 2020 municipal election in West Bengal is likely around April. Political parties want the elections to be held before it turns too sultry. Elections will be conducted in 110 municipalities including Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).

The election for KMC is likely in the second week of April. It is unlikely that elections in all municipalities will be held on a single day. There is possibility of a two to three phase elections.

The entire process is likely to be over in a month. Salt Lake and Asansol municipal corporations, which will dissolve in October, will have their elections later.

The draft list for the reservation of seats for candidates contesting in elections will be published on January 17. The final list will be published on February 10 after handling complaints and corrections, if any. According to the rules of the West Bengal State Election Commission, the municipal elections can be held on any day 10 weeks after the publication of the draft list.
