BJP is trying to influence Rampurhat probe: Mamata Banerjee
She referred to a BJP report on the incident.
West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to influence the probe of the March 21 Rampurhat massacre. She said this in Darjeeling today during an interaction with the media. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now probing the massacre followed by a Calcutta High Court order.
Responding to a question, Banerjee asked how the BJP could name some people in their report even before the probe is completed. “It means that they [the BJP] are trying to influence the investigation,” she said, adding that “we are cooperating in the probe in every possible way”. Banerjee said that one of the three persons arrested was done by the West Bengal police. Banerjee was asked for a response that the BJP in its report submitted to the national party chief JP Nadda, had mentioned the name of Birbhum’s Trinamool chief Anubrata Mondal, as one of the persons responsible for the incident.
She said that the BJP wants her party’s district president – Anubrata Mondal – to be arrested. “Otherwise, how can they name some leaders even before the probe is complete?” she asked. “This is political vendetta,” she said.
On March 21, eight persons — all of them women and children — were killed in Birbhum district’s Bogtui village of Rampurhat, when around ten houses were torched by miscreants. The ninth person, Najma Bibi, died on Monday. The incident is alleged to be a retaliation after a local Trinamool leader Bhadu Sheikh was killed in a crude bomb attack. Fire brigade personnel found the charred bodies from a house.
