BJP IT cell making calls claiming to be Trinamool, maligning our party: Mamata Banerjee
Banerjee urged people receiving such calls to report the matter to police.
Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that she had received complaints from some teachers of Jadavpur University who received calls from unknown persons who claimed to be from the Trinamool Congress and who subsequently abused the teachers. Banerjee said that one person who had received the call was suspicious and tried calling back the number, but it could not be traced, and the matter was thus eventually brought it to her notice.
“The person(s) who received the calls felt that if someone claims to be from the Trinamool Congress, they wouldn’t use abusive language because it would malign the party. So who could have called?” Banerjee asked, adding that she was suspicious that this was a deliberate attempt by the IT cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to malign her party, the Trinamool Congress.
She asked the Kolkata Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra and Director General of state police, Virendra, to conduct a probe. “If anyone receives such calls, I urge them to lodge a complaint with the police’s cyber crime cell,” she said.
