BJP takes out rally in Kolkata in favour of CAA & NRC, blocks road after being stopped by police

The Bharatiya Janata Party in Kolkata today held a rally in favour of the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register for Citizens (NRC).

After starting their rally in Garia and planning to take the rally till Jadavpur 8B bus stop, the BJP’s rally was stopped at Sulekha More. Party leader Anupam Hazra claimed that the BJP had informed police about the programme, but they were still stopped midway, and lathicharged by the police.

After being stopped by the police, the party leaders and supporters refused to budge from the area, and held up traffic for a long time. Police argued that another rally, opposing the CAA and NRC was scheduled to move in the area where the BJP was planning to go, and thus the BJP rally had to be stopped in order to prevent clashes.
