Calcutta High Court asks CBI to probe minister Paresh Adhikari’s daughter’s appointment

Court asks Mamata Banerjee & Jagdeep Dhankhar to consider removing Adhikary as minister.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into the appointment of Ankita Adhikary, daughter of West Bengal government’s junior education minister Paresh Adhikary, for the post of teacher in a state-run school in Mekhligunj. The court has asked the minister of the Mamata Banerjee government to be physically present before the CBI officers on Tuesday itself.

The court has also asked chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to consider removing Adhikary as a minister. During the hearing of the case today, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay asked for the opinion of the School Service Commission (SSC) chairperson in the matter.

Adhikary – who was earlier minister in the former Left Front government and was with the Forward Bloc party – later joined Trinamool Congress. The appointment of his daughter took place in 2018.
