Check the quality of your restaurant-bought biryani or shorshe ilish instantly on this mobile unit in Kolkata
“Food Safety on Wheels” – a mobile unit of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has been launched to check the quality of the food in the city during Durga Puja.
It was taken to various parts of the city to conduct checks on the food sold in restaurants and in small eateries to ensure that the food sold met health standards.
Now, the KMC has decided to use the mobile unit – vehicles fitted with necessary equipment – during holidays and especially during weekends when footfall in restaurants is much higher. The food department has also decided to launch a toll free number so that people can call and get their food checked instantly from this mobile unit. A website will also be launched eventually, Atin Ghosh, the member, mayor-in-council of the municipal body’s food department said.
