CID officers talk to Suvendu’s brother Dibyendu Adhikary in connection with bodyguard’s “mysterious” death
CID took over the probe earlier this week.
West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday spoke to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s brother Dibyendu Adhikari in connection with the mysterious death of a police jawan who worked as Suvendu’s bodyguard.
While Dibyendu Adhikari is a Trinamool Congress member of Parliament, his brother Suvendu switched over to the BJP from Trinamool and is now Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. The CID took over the probe into the “mysterious death” of Subhabrata Chakraborty, who worked as Suvendu Adhikari’s bodyguard. Chakraborty allegedly died by suicide in September 2018. His wife Suparna Chakraborty, had lodged a complaint with Contai police station last week, demanding a probe into her husband’s death. The CID took over the probe two days ago, and officers went to her house in East Midnapore and spoke with her and other family members for several hours that day.
Subhabrata Chakraborty was part of Suvendu Adhikari’s security arrangement for nearly seven years. On September 13, 2018, he was found injured in the police barrack at around 11 am. He had a bullet injury in the head. He was admitted in Contai Hospital throughout the day, and was taken to a Kolkata hospital later in the night. He passed away the following day.
His wife, a resident of Mahishadal in East Midnapore in her complaint demanded a probe stating that she never got answers as to why her husband “despite being” a bodyguard of Suvendu Adhikari, could die under such mysterious circumstances. She has also inquired about the “delay” in shifting him to a Kolkata hospital. She has written in her complaint that she was quiet for so long as Adhikari is a “powerful” leader in the district and she was afraid to speak out against him. She has also mentioned in her complaint the role of some leaders considered “close” to Adhikari.
