Coronavirus in Kolkata: 5 under observation, SSKM to test COVID-19

A person — who had recently travelled to Saudi Arabia — was admitted on Wednesday morning in Beliaghata Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital as a suspected case of Coronavirus (COVID-19). He has been put under observation.
Additionally, five persons are under observation in Beliaghata ID as COVID-19 suspects.
Meanwhile, SSKM Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata got approval for conducting tests to detect COVID-19 on Wednesday. It is thus the first hospital run by the state in West Bengal to get such approval.
So far, tests for COVID-19 was done only at the Centre-run NICED (National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases) situated within Beliaghata ID hospital premises.
An inspection was conducted recently by officials of Union Health Ministry in the microbiology department of SSKM for this purpose. Isolation ward for COVID-19 patients will become operational shortly in the hospital.
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in India rose to 62 on Wednesday with eight persons testing positive from Kerala, five from Maharashtra, four from Karnataka and one from Jammu and Kashmir.
