Two “safe homes” are being opened in Kolkata and Howrah to be run by Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the West Bengal health department.
These are meant for mild and asymptomatic patients who have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). With huge increase in the number of positive cases in the state now, more healthcare facilities are required, and thus, for patients with low or no symptoms who do not have the adequate space in their homes to stay in isolation, these facilities are becoming more and more essential.
The “safe home” facility in Kolkata is in Anandapur of Kasba, which has 400 beds. The KMC authorities will do the housekeeping and maintenance work while the healthcare facilities will be provided by the state health department. Another 200 beds will be added to this facility soon, KMC administrator Firhad Hakim said on Monday. Another one, with 300 beds, is being opened in Howrah’s Baltikuri.
